Exposure and Bracketing of Impacted Teeth

A tooth may not erupted into its proper position and become "stuck" or impacted.  Many times the tooth that becomes impacted is the cuspid, or canine tooth, but can occur to any tooth in the mouth.  Rather than extract this tooth, you may require an impacted tooth be surgically uncovered and a bracket cemented on it.  This will allow for your orthodontist to move the impacted tooth into its proper position.

This radiograph on the left shows two impacted maxillary (upper) cuspids (whites arrows).  The radiograph on the right shows these cuspids in proper position after they have been exposed and brought into position by the orthodontist.
